Dr. Richard P. Vinci is a Professor of Materials Science and Director
of the Nano- and Micro-Mechanical Behavior Laboratory at Lehigh University.
His research focuses on the processing and properties of thin films and
small-scale metal structures, with an emphasis on mechanical behavior.
He received a PhD in Materials Science from Stanford University in 1990.
He received an NSF CAREER Award for a fundamental experimental study of
fatigue behavior in free-standing metal thin films for small-scale structures.
Other active areas of research include strengthening mechanisms in platinum
and gold thin films for microelectronics and MEMS, mechanical behavior
of lead-free solder materials, stress relaxation mechanisms in nano-scale
thin metal films, and processing of sapphire substrates for improved growth
of III-V optical materials.
